How to Install Your Pot Lights in 6 Steps
Step 1: Determine the Purpose of Your Pot Lights
Before the installation of your new pot lights, the layout of the pot lights will need to be determined. This includes the spacing of the lights as well as the placement and pot light layout on your ceiling or wall. You must determine the purpose of your recessed lights in terms of where you want them and how you want them to change a space. After deciding on the purpose of your lights we will work with you on step 2.
Step 2: Layout
Your recessed lighting layout or your ‘pot light layout’ should consider your space’s dimensions, appliances, furnishings, walls, doorways, and other potential factors that could affect how and where you place the lights. Our skilled team will assist in the construction of your lights layout plan.
Step 3: Choosing A Design
Because pot light designs come in a variety of sizes, styles and functions you will want the best-suited choice for your space and your pot light layout. For example, bigger recessed light fixtures are best for higher ceilings because they give off more light. Whereas the smaller lighting units work better on lower ceilings.
Step 4: Calculate the Wattage
Before we hang your beautiful new lights, we will determine how much wattage your outlets can handle. Using the standard calculation for your room: Length x Width x 1.5 = Wattage to assure that your pot light placement is successful.
Step 5: Understand the Dimensions to Calculate Your Pot Light Spacing
One of the more important steps and considerations when planning your lighting placement and pot light layout is the size of your space. Once again the length and width of your space will be needed, just like with the wattage calculation. These measurements are absolutely vital when calculating your recessed lighting spacing from the wall.
For example, If you want to brighten or illuminate a wall or accent particular angles of a room or a piece of art, the rule of thumb is to place your recessed light fixtures between 1.5ft and 3ft from the wall. However, if they’re fixed, they should be placed a tad closer to the wall.
